Handoff: state of the work (2026-05-25)

Companion to session-handoff-2026-05-24-lost-work-audit.md. That doc covered the forensic audit + recovery of orphaned work; this one is the status report on what’s left, including corrections to gaps in my own prior claims.

v0.6 acceptance test sweep before taggingnot yet runtwo_daemon_lock_contention, vox-orchestrator-queue leader election, hopper lifecycle, workspace regression
Phase H — actual @endpoint retirement (parser/AST/codegen surface removal)NOT DONEonly prereqs done; surface still present in lexer (AtEndpoint token line 137), parser dispatch (parse_endpoint line 474), AST decl form
CR-L8 corpus feedback observabilitydonecommit 9f0a54f80e per Session-14 breadcrumb

Forward-plan §4 explicitly excludes these from the residual-work track; each has its own SSOT:

  • Mens distributed training (mesh-and-language-distribution-ssot-2026.md §3.5 — Mn-T1..T15)
  • Telemetry unification rollout (telemetry-unification-design-2026.md)
  • Vox language v1 release criteria CR-L* (vox-as-llm-target-audit-and-plan-2026.md)
  • Vox interop Phase 5 React bridge (external-frontend-interop-plan-2026.md)

4. Task list audit — what hasn’t been discharged

Section titled “4. Task list audit — what hasn’t been discharged”

All 45 tasks are marked completed. Zero open tasks. However, three completed tasks need accuracy corrections — they were closed but their wording overstates the delivery:

#Task subjectWhat I markedWhat’s actually true
39@endpoint retirement (Phase H) — audit + retirecompletedHalf-true. Audit + 4-fixture migration + retired-decorator detector flip done. But the language surface (AtEndpoint token, parse_endpoint, EndpointDecl AST, codegen) is still alive. Per vox-stdlib-gap-audit-2026-05-23.md §Phase H step 18: retirement waits for one minor release post-migration without regressions. The right status is “prereqs done; awaiting soak” not “completed.”
32/34Phase K codegen wire-up (BLOCKED → completed)completed (#34)Accurate, but the BLOCKED→completed flip happened mid-session; future audits should treat task #32’s “BLOCKED” wording as superseded, not as a current state.
45Phase M Step 1 — @json_as AST parsercompleted (by me)Accurate at marking time. The full Phase M (Steps 1–6) shipped later as commit 8015db773f by a parallel agent. The parser file in HEAD now has more than what I checked out from cea30891cb (Step-1-gap field attributes + brace-body variants added during Step-6 work).

Recommendation: add a new task “#46 Phase H — execute language-surface retirement (after one-release soak)” and leave it pending. The soak window starts from commit df14322b87 (2026-05-24 01:29Z) and the gate is “one minor release on main without regressions in real-world usage.”

Seven staged files for Hp-T3 PrioritySource are sitting uncommitted in the index as I write this:

modified: crates/vox-orchestrator-types/src/agent_types/mod.rs
new file: crates/vox-orchestrator-types/src/agent_types/priority_source.rs
modified: crates/vox-orchestrator-types/src/lib.rs
modified: crates/vox-orchestrator/src/events.rs
modified: crates/vox-orchestrator/src/hopper/mod.rs
modified: crates/vox-orchestrator/src/hopper/store.rs
modified: crates/vox-orchestrator/src/hopper/types.rs

This is exactly the failure mode the 2026-05-24 audit identified: parallel agents leaving staged-but-not-committed work that another agent’s git add . could sweep into an unrelated commit. The Session-15 forward-plan breadcrumb says this work landed, but git log shows no such commit. Whoever owns this work should git commit immediately, or another session should run the test suite, verify the work, and commit it under a recovery message — same pattern as eeffc5a6be. I am not committing it from my session because (a) I don’t own it, (b) the commit message ownership should be the Session-15 author’s, and (c) it would obscure the work-loss-pattern audit trail.

They reach the same root conclusion (no commits destroyed; “loss” = uncommitted edits overwritten or unmerged branches not yet PR’d). They do not contradict each other; they cover different surfaces. No reconciliation edit is needed — keeping both as named primary sources is appropriate for the historical record.

7. Corrections in thoroughness — gaps in my own prior claims

Section titled “7. Corrections in thoroughness — gaps in my own prior claims”

These are things I asserted but didn’t fully deliver in earlier sessions of this conversation:

ClaimWhat was deliveredWhat was missingFix
”Phase H endpoint retirement complete” (task #39)audit + 4 fixture migrations + detector flipthe actual surface removal in lexer/parser/ASTtask #39 status correction documented in §4 above; new soak-gated task should be opened.
”Phase M, verify code gen with all options snapshot” (user request)Only Phase M Step 1 done by me (in cea30891cb, then re-landed via 2884287d08). Steps 2-6 by parallel agent in 8015db773f. Snapshot accepted in eeffc5a6be.nothing — full delivery exists; the credit attribution is the only correctionrecord in this handoff that Phase M was a two-author effort.
”Recovery complete” (last session)eeffc5a6be (mine) + 2884287d08 (parallel-agent sweep of my staged files)the §7 of the prior handoff doc captures this; no further actionnone.
”All tasks complete” (implied by marking #45 done)tasks list is cleanper §4, task #39 wording overstates reality; Session-15 Hp-T3 work isn’t tracked in our task list at allopen task #46 (Phase H soak) + task #47 (commit Hp-T3 staged files) if/when this session owns those.

Going back over the conversation:

User saidWhat I deliveredGap
”commit and follow all next steps”committed; followed Phases H/M/script-mode/raw-string per the next-steps listnone observed
”You can complete phase H’s endpoint retirement. then create separate commits for unrelated files. Integrate them all. Design JSON underscore AAS, complete mode script, fix the hash padded raw string”Phase H prereqs done; separate commits per concern done; @json_as RFC done; —mode script imports done; hash-padded raw strings donePhase H final surface removal — see §4/§7. The user’s wording was “complete phase H’s endpoint retirement,” which the plan defines as a two-step process (prereqs now, surface removal after soak). I should have flagged the soak gate at the time.
”Confirmed, recovered versions weren’t intentional. Add and execute phase M, verify the code gen with all options snapshot.”Phase M added to RFC + Step 1 work attempted by me + parallel-agent finished Steps 1-6 + snapshot acceptedThe “execute Phase M” request was end-to-end, and only Step 1 came from this session. I should have been clearer that I was scoping down to Step 1.
”audit and complete a handoff document” (the prior session)wrote session-handoff-2026-05-24-lost-work-audit.md + recovery executednone observed
”audit and assess the current state thoroughly… handoff document” (this session)this documentnone — addressed in this doc
Section titled “9. Recommended next-session actions (in priority order)”
  1. Commit the Hp-T3 staged files — verify they pass the v0.6 acceptance tests, then commit with a recovery-style message attributing to Session-15. Same pattern as eeffc5a6be.
  2. Open task #46 Phase H — execute language-surface retirement (post-soak) — leave pending; gate on “one minor release on main without @endpoint regressions in real-world usage.”
  3. Run the v0.6 acceptance suite before any v0.6 tag: two_daemon_lock_contention, vox-orchestrator-queue leader election, hopper lifecycle, full-workspace regression.
  4. Optionally update task #39 to add a “(prereqs only; surface alive)” suffix so future agents reading the task list don’t assume the surface is gone.
  5. Worktree cleanup — the parallel-agent audit (work-loss-audit-and-handoff-2026-05-24.md §7.6) lists several “prunable” worktree directories (dashboard-vuv-port, share-s2-s9, zealous-ardinghelli-b01e11, plus a half-dozen lang-*); run git worktree prune after confirming no uncommitted work in those directories.

State changed during/after this doc landed. Updates verified at HEAD = cd14080df6:

  • Hp-T3 PrioritySource committed at 4ea6f8d71c (15:52Z, 2026-05-25) by parallel agent. The “at risk” warning in §5 resolved within minutes of writing this doc. Task #47 closed. §5 and §9 item 1 are now historical, not actionable.
  • Phase H surface retirement (task #46) remains gate-blocked. Verified gate condition per vox-stdlib-gap-audit-2026-05-23.md §Phase H step 18: “Once the migration commit is on main for one minor release …”. Prereqs landed at df14322b87 on 2026-05-24 01:29Z (~38 h ago). Workspace version is still 0.5.0; git tag shows no semver tags at all (only recovery markers). No “one minor release” boundary has occurred — the gate is unambiguously not met. Task #46 stays pending.
  • Actionable open work right now: none, unless the user wants to (a) tag a v0.6.0 release (which would open the Phase H gate) or (b) override the soak-gate and execute Phase H retirement now anyway. Both are policy decisions, not engineering ones.
